AlexaCushing on "RE: Internet addiction an epidemic in the UK?"
Matthew, I think you are splitting hairs here.
My entire sense of time has changed, because of the Internet. I want information, connection, answers NOW. Five seconds now feels like a minute. I honestly do sleep with my Blackberry under the pillow, but I've stopped reading it at 3am. I know many people like this . . . I see them in the elevator in the morning . . . looking, scrolling, searching on their BB. We don't speak.
We techno-types want to know what has happened in the last five minutes, as if our lives will be seriously altered by the news.
To keep things simple, the challenge of an addiction is not being able to give it up. We led our daily lives just fine before the Internet. Take that Blackberry away from me, shut down my Internet connection, I am totally stressed. That's what the research confirms. I don't see your point that these human physiological responses are any different from needing a drink.

dotch77 on "RE: Dell goes netbook with the Inspiron Mini 9"
The Asus Eee PC 901 is more expensive, but I like the design better, plus it comes with a 6-cell battery and standard 1.3 MP webcam, bluetooth, 2 speakers and 12 or 20 GB SSD. I agree with Dell that SSD drives are a better choice for netbooks then traditional hard disk drives. See this article on netbookusers.com :

bjterry62 on "RE: AMD responds, wants you to buy AMD"
Picked components for a system from the EGG. They are:
BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX A2+ - $108.96
AMD Phenom 9950 BLACK EDITION 2.6GHz 4 x - $179.99
OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 - $94.99 (after MIR)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3400620AS 400GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s - $64.99
POWERCOLOR AX4870 512MD5-H Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16- $244.99 x 2 - $507.92 (after MIR)
Total plus shipping is $956.85
I left off the case, monitor, keyboard & mouse becasue they will be the same for the other system and their costs will offset each other. And if you're like me, you use the ones you already have instead of buying new ones, because those are the most often upgraded parts of a gaming system. So you see the APPROXIMATE $900 price tag IS ballpark close. Of course $950 would be a CLOSER approximation, but prices change from day to day, or perhaps they decided on DDR2 800 and not 1066 or maybe a smaller hdd. Who knows? I took high end components and still came close to $900. I have a system with a Phenom X3 and an HD 4850 and I play Crysis at 1680 x 1050 and that system is under $700WITH a 22" LCD and high power case included!
And lastly, your final paragraph looks like absolute fanboyism. Everyone knows that AMD has been around for only 1 yr less than Intel and has been beaten down by the Blue Team for years. Yet they continue to persevere. First with 64bit x86, first with integrated memory controller, etc, etc. They're not going anywhere.
